Os Canibais

The final session of the film and conversation cycle Modos de Rever: O Cinema sob Influência (da Pintura) is dedicated to Contemporary cinema and presents Manoel de Oliveira’s Os Canibais (1988). The session features poet and writer Amândio Reis and researcher Patrícia Castello-Branco, moderated by Isabel Lopes Gomes. This 90-minute film opera is set in the palace of a strange high society and follows a passionate triangle involving the enigmatic Viscount of Aveleda, Margarida and her suitor D. José. The film adapts a nineteenth-century story by Álvaro do Carvalhal, with a libretto by João Paes.
