One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

In 1963, a small-time criminal feigns insanity so that he can serve his sentence in a psychiatric institution in Oregon, USA, rather than in prison. There, he challenges the oppressive authority of the head nurse and encourages the other patients to reclaim their autonomy and dignity. Starring Jack Nicholson, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest combines comedy and psychological drama to portray the awakening of people silenced by a dehumanising system. The film became a major critical and public success, won five Academy Awards and remains a powerful reflection on freedom, power and resistance.
