Aloïse

Aloïse Corbaz, one of the best-known figures in art brut, sees her life change when she is diagnosed with schizophrenia and admitted to a psychiatric institution, where she remains for more than four decades. Liliane de Kermadec explores the artist’s years of confinement and the way writing and painting became languages through which she could express her imagination. Isabelle Huppert appears in one of her first roles, while Delphine Seyrig plays Aloïse as an adult. The film presents a perspective on mental illness that is free from stereotypes.
