PROMENADE 2026 - Uma Sinfonia Alpina de R. Strauss

The Coliseu introduced the Promenade Concerts in Portugal in 2005 to bring audiences of all ages closer to the finest stories and melodies of classical music. With artistic direction by Maestro Cesário Costa, commentary by Jorge Castro Ribeiro and multimedia design by Sara Botelho, children and adults are invited, one Sunday each month, to enter the world of one or more emblematic works and discover their curiosities. This edition presents Richard Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony, performed by the ESMAE Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Cesário Costa. The symphonic poem depicts a climb through the Bavarian Alps, from the night before dawn to the return to the valley at sunset, moving through night, dawn, ascent, alpine landscapes, storm and sunset in an evocative musical account of nature and the human experience of the mountain.
