Amor É Assim: Comedy Play

There are secrets that seem perfect… until the day everything starts to go wrong.

Joaquim Baião leads an apparently exemplary life. Organised, punctual and methodical, he manages, without anyone suspecting, two homes, two routines and two women, Bárbara Baião and Prazeres Baião. For years, his plan works perfectly.

But a small mishap is enough to bring down a carefully constructed balance. From then on, lie follows lie, with unexpected phone calls, overly curious neighbours, persistent police officers and a friend completely unable to keep a story coherent. The result is a dizzying succession of misunderstandings that turns the impossible into one of the most brilliant comedies ever written.

Amor É Assim… is the Portuguese adaptation of Run for Your Wife, by Ray Cooney, one of the most successful comedies in theatre history. After an extraordinary nine-year run in London’s West End, it reached Broadway and the world’s major stages. Translated into dozens of languages and performed in more than 50 countries, it has been interpreted by some of the world’s greatest actors and theatre companies, winning millions of spectators and becoming a true international phenomenon.

Starring João Baião, this major production also brings together Cristina Oliveira, Mané Ribeiro, Luís Garcia, João Frizza, João Lopes and Susana Cacela, directed by João Baião and Fernando Gomes.

A vibrant, current and irresistible production, where humour, frenetic pace and an unstoppable succession of surprises promise to win over audiences from the first minute to the last.

An unmissable show. Because some secrets can last a lifetime… until someone rings the doorbell.
