Luís Represas

The concerts marking Luís Represas’s 50-year career will go ahead on 10 and 17 April 2027 at the Coliseums of Lisbon and Porto, drawing on songs released in his own name and those he shared with Trovante. Friends, close collaborators, partners from different parts of his journey and people who found a source of inspiration in Luís Represas understood that these shows have not lost their meaning or reach; on the contrary, the musical map remains the same, guided by people determined to carry the torch and respect the purpose of these nights in two magical and landmark venues. In this way, they fulfil a desire and principle repeated over recent weeks: not to let a singular body of work that changed and shaped the course of Portuguese music fall silent or be forgotten. That signal will be given on stage, as Luís Represas would have wanted.

Some guarantees can already be given. Flávio Serpa is producing these evenings, with musical direction by Manuel Faria, who remains active with Trovante and in Represas’s solo career, supported by Carlos Garcia, a key figure in the singer’s more recent work, and Miguel Nuñez, the Cuban pianist who has also often worked alongside Luís. The members of Trovante will answer the call, as will the band that currently played with Represas. The vocal line-up for this unique challenge will be revealed soon, in keeping with the integrity and high standards that Luís Represas has always represented. Everyone will be intent on doing justice to and bringing new life to the songs that have accompanied us for 50 years—much more than embodying “homages” or “tributes”, concepts and expressions that Luís himself was not particularly fond of. This is about music: music made by one man and around him. The calendars remain open and attentive for when next April arrives.

Of course, among those who bought tickets before 22 July and/or those who purchased them afterwards, some may choose to request the possible refunds, which are naturally guaranteed. Yet the availability, interest and votes of confidence arriving from many people—from Luís Represas’s acquaintances to his loyal anonymous regulars—suggest that this is unlikely to be the main trend. Above all, that support is already an encouragement for these concerts, for Luís and on Luís’s behalf.
