Jazz in the Space Age by George Russel

Description
George Russell developed the first musical theory to emerge from within jazz itself. He created a revolutionary new approach to composition that changed the course of the music and influenced figures such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman. Miles Davis’s landmark album Kind of Blue and the entire development of modal jazz would not have existed without Russell’s ideas. One of his masterpieces, Jazz in the Space Age, is a prime example of these concepts in practice, opening up a new world of sonic possibilities for jazz. Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos continues to celebrate Russell’s legacy by performing the music of this historic album. Jazz in the Space Age returns to the stage of Casa da Música, this time with Mário Laginha and Miguel Meirinhos as soloists. Two extraordinary pianists from different generations venture into the celestial space imagined by Russell, tracing the unpredictable trajectories of free improvisation as they dance with the orbits mapped out by the big band.
