Tokyo Godfathers

Gin, a middle-aged alcoholic, Miyuki, a runaway teenager, and Hana, a trans woman, form an unlikely family of people experiencing homelessness on the streets of Tokyo. On Christmas Eve, while searching through rubbish, they find a newborn baby in a bin, whom Hana names Kyoko. With only a few clues to the child’s identity, the three set off across the city in search of her parents. Inspired by the biblical story of the Three Wise Men and John Ford’s western Three Godfathers, Tokyo Godfathers marks a turning point in Satoshi Kon’s work, revealing a warmer and more humanist register.
