Os Dias Levantados

Description
Os Dias Levantados is a concert version of António Pinho Vargas’s opera about the final days of Portugal’s dictatorship and the events surrounding the 25 April 1974 Revolution. Fear, censorship and war coexist with the hope of change; the Revolution brings together military personnel and the population in a moment of democratic celebration, followed by debates about ideas, uncertainty and the construction of a shared future. With a libretto by Manuel Gusmão, the work combines historical events with symbolic reflection on freedom, courage, democracy, memory and the future. The concert features musical direction by Pedro Amaral, the singers Eduarda Melo, Sara Braga Simões, Sílvia Sequeira, Rui Vieira, Leonel Pinheiro, Jorge Vaz de Carvalho, José Corvelo and Luís Rodrigues, the Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos and the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa. It is a co-production by Coliseu Porto Ageas and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
