Memories

Produced by Katsuhiro Ōtomo, Memories is an animated trilogy presenting three distinct visions of science fiction: Magnetic Rose, directed by Kōji Morimoto from a screenplay by Satoshi Kon, anticipating themes that would become central to his work; Stink Bomb, a satire by Tensai Okamura and Ōtomo; and Cannon Fodder, an allegory of militarism written and directed by Ōtomo himself. Moving between psychological horror, absurd comedy and political dystopia, this anthology explores the limits of memory, technology and power while revealing the creative range of some of the most influential figures in 1990s Japanese animation.
