Luas Novas: Carla Andrade + Joana Patrão

This Luas Novas session welcomes Carla Andrade and Joana Patrão and enters into thematic dialogue with Telúricas, a chapter of the Seleção Nacional programme developed in partnership with Cineteca Madrid. Andrade, an artist working with photography and moving image, studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Salamanca and Artists’ Film & Moving Image at Goldsmiths, University of London, and is currently studying Philosophy. Her practice explores landscape, nature and the limits of perception. Patrão studied Plastic Arts and completed a master’s degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto; her practice examines landscape as both a symptom of conflict and a potential process of reconnection. Her work explores the elemental quality of natural matter and the different interactions between the body and geological, biological and technological time. At Batalha, a selection of the artists’ work proposes an encounter between two practices connected by an earthy sensibility and materiality. The session is followed by a conversation with Carla Andrade and Joana Patrão.
